It is important that I keep up to date on all the regulations, so I am constantly researching what is new in order to give my clients the best program.

2001 – Present          English I, II, II & IV/English as a Second Language/World History and U.S. History/American Culture Instructor: San Fernando Valley Academy, Northridge, CA; Corporate Looking Glass, Brentwood, TN; Bellarmine-Jefferson High School, Burbank, CA; The Cambridge Network, Waltham, MA; Chaminade College Preparatory, Chatsworth, CA; ELS, California Lutheran University, Thousand Oaks, CA; College of the Canyons, Santa Clarita, CA; Pepperdine University, Malibu, CA; Language Door, Encino, CA; Strategy Workplace Communications, Woodland Hills, CA; Taipei County Wulai Elementary and Junior High School, Wulai, Taiwan; Hangzhou, China; New Bridge University, Los Angeles; Private Teaching locally and throughout the world

It is important that I place these schools and businesses together. With my background in history, communication, acting, teaching, world traveling and foreign language, teaching English as a foreign language was a natural progression. I began in 2001 at Pepperdine University in the ELS program. I then transferred to the College of the Canyons. When September 11, 2001 happened, the school had to temporarily close. I then found a job instructing the same courses at New Bridge University. Each week the students gave public speeches as they would in any public speaking course. I also engaged them in role-playing. I took them on many field trips to introduce them to language and culture. My students were primarily from Asia and South America. I was able to adjust my teaching styles to meet each culture’s learning needs while at the same time introducing them to American culture. My classes were taught in a way that these students could pass their TOEFL exams and enter a two- or a four-year college. My students consistently entered the higher courses of ESL or completely bypassed the ESL program at their continuing schools. In 2007 I taught ESL in Taiwan prior to beginning my MA training. I then taught at California Lutheran University, also in the ELS program. The students were a varied mix from the Middle East, Europe, Latin America and the Far East. I also had the opportunity to teach higher-level student courses in U.S. history; U.S. government; American culture; anthropology; public speaking; debate; slang and idioms; documentaries; biology; news reporting; creative writing; media writing and news anchoring; student film; and essay writing. In 2014 I went to China and taught for a short time. I currently teach privately all throughout the world using various platforms such as Skype as well as teaching local private classes.

As a language teacher, I have been introduced to many different cultures. Throughout the years, I have been able to study the student’s cultures and have taught to cultural differences when teaching American culture. It has also allowed me to intervene and explain controversies that arise where the parties were unaware that, although they were speaking English, thier cultural backgrounds were the causes of their conflicts. I also have developed a unique method and course to teach standard American pronunciation. Out of this method, I wrote the book Pronunciation Supplements: Lists, sentences and stories to aid in the learning and teaching of standard American English sounds. The first edition was published in 2009 and a second version was published in 2017 that added stories emphasizing the sounds being learned.

2018 – 2019              Marketing and Sales Acquisition, Zanoza, Inc., Sherman Oaks, CA

I acquired homes to sublease for this short-term home rental business. I was also the cultural translator for the Russian owners. I wrote and developed all of the marketing brochures and other advertising. I created, wrote and voiced the marketing videos. I developed their website and wrote content for it. I proofread and edited all official writing such as other advertising, signage and legal documents.

2018 – 2019              Writer and Data Entry, KASLAX (KAS Express), Los Angeles, CA

I proofread, edited and wrote official writing such as letters and other documents. I dealt with TSA regulations. I entered data based on the day’s shipping.

2016 – 2017              General Manager and Cultural Liaison, TC Education Group, Beijing, China/Arcadia, CA

I managed a company that recruited and placed Chinese elementary and high school students in American schools. I researched and applied to schools for these students. When a student was accepted, I taught them a short course on the American educational culture system that I developed and, most importantly, I was the cultural liaison between the students, teachers and administrators.

2007 – 2009              Master of Arts Student at Norwich University

I went back to school and attained my Master of Arts in Military History. I researched and wrote many papers including:

“An Examination of the Historiography of the American Revolutionary Continental Navy”

“The Reasoning for the Eurocentric Nature of Modern Military History”

“Idealism: the Western Way of War”

“Ho Chi Minh: His Thoughts and Theories of War”

“The Inter-War Predominance Belief of Air Power and the Illegality of Civilian-Population Bombings in Light of the Second World War”

“Surprise, Secrecy, Cunning and Endurance: The Non-Western Way of War”

“How American Attitudes Toward Race and Gender Affected the Roles That Black Americans and Women Played in the American War Effort During World War II”

My capstone paper was titled:   “Bushido: The Code of Conduct Behind the Japanese American Soldier—Spanish-American War Through World War II.” I interviewed many veterans of World War II for this project. I presented this paper in public forums.

2004 – 2007              Instructor, Manager, Director and Consultant, Safety Compliance Services, Glendale, CA

I taught seemingly boring OSHA, HIPPA, Department of Health and State Board classes to medical professional and made them fun and educational. I was also the consulting manager with a crew of consultants and teachers. I wrote monthly articles for the newsletter. I researched and kept up with all of the government regulations. I inspected nearly 400 dental, medical and veterinary clients’ offices and instructed their personnel. I developed and conducted the seminars using my skill as a speaker enhanced by self-created PowerPoint presentations. I also argued OSHA cases in front of the court and was 100 percent successful in reducing or eliminating fines.

1995 – 1996              Director of Research, CFKR Career Materials, Auburn, CA

As the director of research, it was my job to update, evaluate and standardize aptitude testing for high school students. I also was substitute-teaching high school at the time, so my research subjects were close at hand. My research benefited the Job-O series of aptitude tests. I was the research director and main contributing writer of the book College Major Handbook. This book listed careers and college majors that applied to certain careers. It was also my duty to keep up on OSHA regulations at our facility. I taught weekly classes and administered testing of all the employees.

1993 – 1999              Instructor, Sacramento Adventist Academy, Carmichael, CA

As a teacher who substituted for other teachers, I had the opportunity to teach various subjects within my fields of knowledge. History, English (including drama and speech) and Spanish were the classes that I taught most regularly. I developed lesson plans, administered tests, and led discussions within each class that I taught.

1990 – 1993              Dramatic Arts Instructor, Pacific Union College, Angwin, CA

Because of my background in performance and acting, Pacific Union College asked me to teach the course Dramatic Program Productions in 1990 while I was still a student. I took my knowledge as a performer and developed a fun and exciting class that the students enjoyed.

The following school year another student and I founded the Dramatic Arts Society on the campus of Pacific Union College. This is a student-run organization whose sole purpose is to produce at least three plays a year. This organization continues to be a vibrant and important part of Pacific Union College.

Because of my involvement in acting and theatre production, the college decided to start an academic program in Dramatic Arts. They asked me to study other colleges’ theatre programs and start a Dramatic Arts minor that would then grow into a major. I was hired to teach acting and theatre in 1992. I developed and taught courses in Acting, History of Theatre and Stagecraft. I chose to stay as an instructor for only one year and left to become a professional actor.

1990                           KCDS, 89.9, Angwin, CA

I helped produce radio programs. I edited tape and helped cue records for airplay.

1990                           KOVR-TV, Channel 13, Sacramento, CA

I worked as a news reporter for this ABC affiliate station. I set up and conducted interviews, monitored the scanner, and was instrumental in contacting the American Embassy in Kuwait to get information on Iraq’s invasion of the country.

1990                           Music Circus, Sacramento, CA

I assisted the assistant stage manager and the artistic director in various productions including Into the Woods, Annie Get Your Gun, Chess, Big River, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and The Boyfriend. I also helped prepare and construct sets.

1993 – Present                      Professional Actor and Director

During the gaps on my timeline and through all of the positions that I have had, I continued to work in the entertainment field as an actor and as a director. As a child I sang, danced and acted. I took voice, performance, movement and acting lessons all through my schooling. I also modeled and did print work. I began by securing a talent agent in both San Francisco and Sacramento. I acted in many commercials and small films. I moved permanently to Los Angeles in 1999. I work with small and large film companies. I have worked on many of the studio lots in the Los Angeles area. I have a separate acting resume and filmography that lists all of my stage and film credits both behind and in front of the camera and stage. If you would like a copy, please let me know.
